A Letter From Linda #2
"Let’s go forward together Harbor Springs.
Danny has kindly agreed to post my comments on the zoning code update because the Harbor Light isn’t going to publish letters about the code update or the city council election November 4, and I’m not on Facebook. Please don’t blame Danny for my words.
Over the winter and spring planning commission meetings became cordial and produced consensus and progress. I agreed with several We Love Harbor Springs (WLHS) positions.
This summer the implications and accusations of wrongdoing and incompetence returned. I attended the five recent planning commission open houses. (I’m not crazy, just troubled by the discord in our community.) By the way, I agree with WLHS that our community includes all in the 49740 zip code. That said, only the five members of the Harbor Springs City Council make decisions for the city.
The open houses were well attended, a couple had standing room only. At times, there was a palpable undercurrent of distrust and anger. Our planning commission and city staff don’t deserve that.
Maureen Kenney, president of WLHS, told the Petoskey News Review that she feels the planning commission still isn’t listening to what citizen’s want. After being at lots of planning commission meetings and witnessing them make many compromises, she doesn’t speak for me."
