Enough is Enough.
If you haven't seen the paper yet today, the headline announces that our City Manager, Victor Sinadinoski, will be leaving Harbor Springs in December. Victor is a kind, thoughtful, dedicated and talented leader. He will be missed.
I want to wish Victor, his wife, and adorable two kids all the best in their new adventure. He deserves better than what we gave him here in Harbor Springs. Colorado will be lucky to have him.
We have a lot to reflect on Harbor Springs. We've lost volunteers on our boards and commissions, our school superintendent resigned, and now our city manager has resigned. I know each of these losses were impacted in some way by the rancor and incivility fomented by a few in our community. I think for some it was their goal.
Animus has been fanned by many who are not residents of Harbor Springs. Those often-harsh voices are not inclusive of all of us, rather they are reflective of a few narrow interests. And a lot of money.
I think any reasonable observer would say there is something wrong when a place as idyllic as we claim to be is now without permanent professional leaders at City Hall and the School District.
If you don't think candidates thinking about applying for either position in the future wont notice, you are fooling yourself.
Elections are next Tuesday. The same forces that brought us to this broken place are eager to elect their preferred candidates. If we let it happen, we could have a majority of our City Council who live nearly next door to each other along East Bluff.
Vote for those who value civility and progress for our city. Vote for candidates committed to mending our city rather than continuing to tear us apart. Vote for those who attend meetings and work to know more about how we can be better. Vote for those who think of Harbor Springs as a community for all not a theme park for some.
When is enough, enough? It is time to move forward Harbor Springs.
