Letter from Linda #3
A letter this morning from Linda Rachwitz about last night's generally very positive Candidate Forum:
"Let’s go forward together.
Absentee ballots have been mailed. I’m guessing that many people have already voted. The results of the November city council election could have a serious impact on Harbor Springs.
I attended last night’s Chamber of Commerce City Council Candidate Forum. We are fortunate to have five people willing to serve. Being a city council member is a huge commitment of time and effort. The candidates answered tough questions sincerely and thoughtfully. All candidates expressed love for our city.
When asked what one thing they would change about the existing zoning code, candidates responded: clarity of the document, accessory dwellings, lot sizes and property rights. One answer was jarring. Bill Donohue said, “The city spoke clearly last year and that was we don’t want to change zoning. And what’s going on now is that the planning commission is clearly trying to accomplish that even though we said no. The one thing I would change is, I would stop the planning commission dead in their tracks.”
That sounds very disruptive to me. Is disruption what we want?"
