Hello from Mystic, Connecticut!
Hello Harbor Springs! The gang over at We Love Harbor Springs have put together a reminder post card they have posted over on their site. It is a good reminder using a familiar theme....with a photo that is NOT Harbor Springs.
Please check out the dates, and attend if you can. Voices from outside Harbor Springs will be loud. If you have questions the Open Houses are a great opportunity to better understand the relatively minor changes proposed and how they will help our town. It is yet another in a long list of dozens of public opportunities to weigh in on the code. The Planning Commission has some incredible dedication.
On a lighter (but telling) note---The photo used by on this postcard urging Harbor Springs to "Wake Up" is NOT a photo of Harbor Springs.
That is a picture of Mystic, Connecticut. I have no idea how the people of Mystic feel about our zoning code. Looks like a pretty place and as the home of "Mystic Pizza" (Julia's Roberts' first big Rom Com) it is a cinematic and culinary classic! We need a movie about Turkey's!
We Love Harbor Springs is SO invested in your property rights, SO serious about preserving our city just how it is, that they cannot identify that a picture they are using is NOT our town. Come on, folks.
It would be funny if it just wasn't sad. It is not the first time it has happened. It's a sign of outsourcing advocacy to people who live in Traverse City, Toledo, Chicago, Dallas, and Lansing.
Don't let that discourage you from getting involved, but perhaps add it to the proof points that they aren't real straight shooters.
